We just finished working on my favourite project to date. It’s a website for Jaiden Priestley, a semi-pro weightlifter, welder & fire rescue worker.
The website was designed to help him get sponsorships for his national and international competitions. Initially, I went for a classic sports website look with an urban feel. But after chatting to Jaiden, he really likes Pit Viper sunglasses. Pit Viper’s marketing is simply incredible. It’s tongue and cheek. It’s outrageous and they use crazy retro elements. So, we decided to scrap it and start again and incorporate some radical 80s & 90s elements.
The website has a mix of retro and modern features. There’s a silly little game built into the social media icons. They run away from the mouse pointer when you try to click on them. When you do get your mouse over the top of the icon, they buzz like they’re scared. We used old school bodacious fonts inspired from 80’s sci-fi movies like Bladerunner.
Jaiden also has a side hustle doing welding. He has a trade as a boilermaker. So we built a whole section just for this with it’s own logo.

We were thinking there’d be people searching for his welding services and they’re not going to care that he lifts weights and ride horses. They just want a local guy to weld some metal. So, if they land on this page, it’s easy for them to call or fill out the form to request the work. You can access the rest of the site from the footer of the welding page. But it explains what he does in that section. If you’re on the front page of the site, then you can access the welding section from the main part of the website.
Check it out!
